The Horizons series was inspired by early twentieth century visual poetry created by artists such as Stéphane Mallarmé, and Guillaume Apollinaire. The pieces of work use contemporary printing technologies to allow for the multi-dimensional representation of letterforms. The texts reflect on the transitory nature of time and space, as well as on the dynamic relationship between the two. The background images show buildings found both in Paris and in London. The enormous facades of those buildings turn vertical planes into artificial landscapes, which invite thoughts to travel along the man-made lines. The positioning of text elements, as well as their transitory characteristics underline the meaning of the texts. The perspective-dependent level of legibility forces viewers to ‘take position’, to actively engage in the process of perception. |
