Home Hillner Works Vision Contact Note

Matthias Hillner was born in Germany, where he trained first in photography, then in visual design. He received his MA in Communication Art and Design at the Royal College of Art in 2001, and worked subsequently for various London-based design agencies.

Having taught art and design at diverse colleges in and around London, Matthias returned to the RCA in 2004 to investigate virtual typography. His research initiative led to the formation of the Studio for Virtual Typography (www.virtualtypography.com), a design consultancy that specialises in developing typographic solutions for new media environments. The business development was supported by the NFTS (National Film and Television School), and sponsored by NESTA (National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts).

In 2006 Matthias was appointed Course Leader of Applied Graphics at Amersham and Wycombe University in Buckinghamshire. At the same time Matthias began to shift his emphasis from commissioned work in the field of design to fine art practice. The series of limited edition prints featured on this website is the pilot project, which is due to be followed by various other initiatives.
